FRI, JULY 03 2020-theG&BJournal- There are after all confirmed cases of coronavirus in Cross River State.
TheG&BJournal obtained a memo written by the chief medical director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) Prof. Ikpeme A Ikpeme on the 3rd July (today) 2020, on behalf of the management of UCTH titled- UCTH Staff Health Advisory: Re: COVID-19 Pandemic. The memo revealed the outcome of COVID-19 samples from medical staff of the University.
The memo reads; ‘’COVID-19 tests performed on 5 samples from our hospital returned positive. Two of these samples came from our medical staff. These staff have since made tremendous progress along the path of recovery and are doing well. The tests were performed using the PCR Technique at the NCDC (Nigeria Centre for Disease Control) accredited Laboratory located at Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki. The Management has duly informed the Cross River State Government and other agencies of Government.’’
The memo continued: ‘’As an institution of Government, The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital will continue to provide information and guidance; and take steps to protect our staff, patients and the community we serve. We therefore urge everyone to take personal responsibility and co-operate with Government and institutions in the ongoing fight against the disease, especially with relaxation of the lockdown which can potentially translate into an increase in the number of cases.’’
Cross River State is the only State that is yet to officially appear on the NCDC list of States with confirmed cases of coronavirus since the pandemic touched the shores of the country.
